Food Hunting At Seri Kembangan During Raya Holiday

It's time to blog about some foods at my place,Seri Kembangan. My friends always asked me got any nice food to eat in Seri Kembangan, the answer from me always is i don't know,i have no idea....LOL...Still remembered my primary school teacher was asking us what's the popular food in Seri Kembangan when i was standard 3, my answer was Satay...i have no idea why i will answer satay that time.Okay, the answer is paper wrapped chicken.

During this long Hari Raya,Merdeka holiday,i brought my friends for food hunt in my place.

Restoran Kien Kee Sup Pedas Ayam Kampung

SIOW KEK LING, who is of Hakka descent and born in Seri Kembangan village, created the spicy soup served here because he liked it very much and experimented with various recipes. Started in 1999, the family claims to be the first to introduce this dish to Seri Kembangan.(source from rasarasa.net. After read this article i only knew that started in 1999,no wonder i had never eat this when i was young)

Originally a tai chow place, this stall has completely switched to selling the soup due its success. It is now run by Siow’s sons and daughters though he still comes in the morning. During the school holidays, his grandchildren would help out too.

Their signature dish Sup pedas ayam kampung, peppery chicken soup(rm10 per pax) also known as lat thong (辣汤) (hot soup) in Chinese, this clear soup gets its distinct warming and spicy taste from the use of crushed black peppercorns. The soup is also sweet tasting from the use of an assortment of pork meat, stomach and intestines. The owner claims it is useful in alleviating coughs.I always ordered it without pork stomach and intestines because i don't eat, added fish meatball too, they will cook with chicken instead of pork stomach and intestines. But it would be tastier if cook with pork inner.

Another dish must ordered is Fa tiu kai, claypot chicken with wine(花雕鸡)rm10 per pax .Served in a claypot, the tender chicken pieces are coated with a thick and slightly sweet soy sauce, which goes well with a bowl of white rice. The addition of fa tiu wine just before serving adds an alluring aroma to the dish.

 and vegetable

Total bill come with rm87 for 4 pax.

Serdang Sister Lam Yong Tau Foo Restaurant

I'm not fancy yong tau foo much, cause my mum cooked this every week.

THIS RESTAURANT has been doing a brisk business since the early 1980s. Formerly known as Seri Kembangan Hakka Yong Tau Foo, it was run by Madam Wong and her daughters from their home in the Seri Kembangan village. They continue to serve one of the best Hakka-style yong tau foo in the Klang Valley at their current location under a new name.
Working from home in the Seri Kembangan village near the school at Jalan SK3, Madam Wong started selling her fare in 1988. Due to complaints from neighbours and fines from the authorities, they relocated to this shophouse in March 2008. Her four daughters help out at the restaurant.

The paste used to stuff the vegetables and taufu is tasty and chunky. It is made from minced kau yee (mackerel) and pork with a hint of salted fish. Sambal belacan is served as a dip for the yong taufu here, as the owners prefer it to the usual sweet sauce.

There selling paper wrapped chicken too but we didn't order.

沙登油池佬 Serdang Shrimp Fried Yam Bean Pancake

This call 油池 ,similar like shrimp fried pancake, ingredient with yam bean. This was a special food in serdang. This was well know in serdang, since 30 years ago so-called 油池佬 ride a motorcycle around serdang housing area selling 油池 with his trademark ride bell ring.

I started to eat this when i was young, was reminds me for my childhood. Now the uncle no more ride motorcycle,it's run by his son and daughter now. There was a van park at the shop lot at bukit serdang(kampung aman) with a sigh board of 油池.

We were very curious why call this 油池, so we asked for the son for the answer. The son was very friendly said showed us something,we were very excited wondering what he will show us.Finally he took a magazine from van and show us an article which introduce 油池.I had read this article in newspaper last few week ago.So it was nothing surprise for me.

He started to telling the story of his dad was origin from ipoh. His grandmother started to cook this 油池(which speak in hakka, as a hakka i still have no idea why call this name) with thin lesser yam bean. After his dad moved to serdang, was improved it with more yam bean and become thicker.Serdang people start to call him 油池佬.
